EAST PASADENA, Los Angeles County — A county community profile explains why housing affordability and neighborhood character have featured prominently in planning discussions about East Pasadena and East San Gabriel.
In a historical planning snapshot, LA County identified approximately 9,500 housing units in the combined East Pasadena–East San Gabriel community and described about 58% as owner-occupied and 42% renter-occupied. The report estimated that a substantial share of households faced difficulty affording typical home prices or rents.
Numbers have a date
The county’s community spotlight cites a 2021 population of 26,807 for the combined planning area. These numbers are not November 2026 population estimates and should not be treated as counts for East Pasadena alone.
The profile also identifies substantial residential land use and notes agricultural and nursery activity among the community’s characteristics. Residents can compare the historical data with later county surveys and newly adopted land-use standards to understand development proposals.
